Charles W. Collier

ST. PAULHarvard University’s senior philanthropic advisor, Charles W. Collier will be the keynote speaker at the April 30, 2008 Professional Advisors Seminar at the Minneapolis Club in downtown Minneapolis.  Mr. Collier’s topic will be:  “Wealth and the Family: Asking The Essential Questions.”  One-hundred estate planning attorneys, accountants, and financial advisors are expected to attend.  The seminar is jointly sponsored by the Catholic Community Foundation, Lutheran Community Foundation and Minneapolis Jewish Federation as part of their GiveWithFaith.org marketing initiative.

Charles W. Collier has worked with hundreds of individuals to shape their philanthropy, help them make tax-wise gift decisions, and advise them on family relationship issues surrounding wealth. He serves on the board of the National Center for Family Philanthropy and the committee on the Emotional and Psychological Issues in Estate Planning of the American Bar Association. Mr. Collier holds a BA from Dartmouth College and an MTS from Harvard Divinity School. The second edition of his book, Wealth in Families, was published by Harvard University in 2006.

“We are delighted to have Mr. Collier join us for this seminar for professional advisors,” said Marilou Eldred, president of the Catholic Community Foundation.  “He promises to equip attendees with a new set of provocative questions for their clients.  We will all benefit from what he has to share about how a family’s attitude toward and treatment of money can have a profound effect on its well being.  As a community foundation, we want to assist professional advisors as they speak to their clients about their financial and philanthropic goals.  This seminar will help advisors better understand the challenges and opportunities that families face and how breakthrough conversations can strengthen a family.”

To attend, professional advisors may register online at www.givewithfaith.org.  Seating is limited.  Attendees will receive 1.5 hours of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit.

MORE ABOUT THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Catholic Community Foundation (www.catholiccommunityfoundation.org) is the nation’s largest community foundation serving Catholic philanthropy.  The Foundation was established in 1992 to support financially the spiritual, educational and social needs of the Catholic community in the 12 county area of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.  The Foundation currently manages assets in excess of $195 million and has distributed more than $55 million in grants to the community since inception.

The Foundation works with donors to help them capitalize on the benefits of charitable planned giving, including the ability to reduce their taxes, receive a life income from their gift and leave a legacy for generations to come.  Some 2,300 families have chosen to conduct their philanthropy with the Catholic Community Foundation by setting up donor advised funds, endowments, charitable gift annuities and trusts.
